Caloundra Cause Cup Upset
Caloundra FC have caused the first major upset of the Football Queensland Cup, defeating NPL Queensland club Sunshine Coast Fire in a high-drama penalty shootout.
After twice fighting back from a goal down inside 90 minutes, before the two teams traded goals to see extra time finish 3-3, the lower tier outfit eventually claimed an historic victory at Stockland Stadium 4-2 on penalties.
Caloundra now only need two further wins to earn a berth in the FFA Cup's Round of 32 as one of Queensland's four qualifiers, but will first have to beat Wide Bay's Gympie Diggers.
That match is just one of the state's Round 5 fixtures which have now been decided, the other mouth-watering match-ups being Northern Fury v FNQ Heat, SWQ Thunder v Palm Beach and Magpies v Southside/Clinton.
