Tuggies take positive mindset to Tassie
Tuggeranong United believe they can defy their current league position and pull off another Westfield FFA Cup upset next Tuesday night in the round of 32 when they face South Hobart.
Based on their current positions on their respective league tables, the ledger seems firmly in South Hobart’s favour.
South Hobart sit six points clear in the Victory League, while on the NPL Capital Football ladder, Tuggeranong find themselves in sixth spot, 15 points adrift of league leaders Cooma Tigers.
Add the fact that South Hobart are playing at home, and the task in front of Tuggies appears a momentous one.
But after this week’s spectacular opening round of the Westfield FFA Cup round of 32, anything can happen.
And despite their indifferent league form, Tuggies coach Steve Foreshaw says the Canberra based club is ready to put its best foot forward.
“The mood in the camp is extremely positive because the players are excited about going to Hobart and playing in the FFA cup.
“So the mood is really good, really positive, we’ve trained well and the players are very much looking forward to the trip,” he said.
“We’ll concentrate on getting the little things right that we know we can do, make sure everybody knows their roles during the game, and as long as we play to our potential there’s no reason we can’t get a very positive result.
“I would expect that we will go down there with a positive frame of mind, give 100 per cent and try and get a result that will make Canberra proud.
Club president Jon Thiele shares his coach’s optimism, his pride in Tuggeranong being the ACT’s sole entrant and representative in the Westfield FFA Cup something they are not taking for granted.
“I think they’ll perform brilliantly. No doubt that when we step out onto KGV field in Hobart that you’ll see nothing but the boys playing with 100 per cent heart giving their utmost.”
Cup matches can often be decided by one piece of brilliance, one moment of magic, and it may take something special for Tuggeranong to progress to the next round.
Captain Tim Stewart believes they have the personnel to provide it, and has identified the team’s attacking arsenal as possibly match winners.
“We’re based our team work and working together as a unit so it’s hard to pinpoint one player specifically, but our front three has been really good recently, there has been a lot of good interchange up there so hopefully one of them can create something special and help us win the game.”
